KUALA LUMPUR – The Foreign Ministry today said it has identified the man who they said made baseless claims in a voice recording that went viral in the aftermath of the botched handling of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last month.
Wisma Putra said in a statement that the individual was called in to assist in their investigations and admitted to be the man in the recording.
“He also said that the ‘Datin’ mentioned was an officer of the former foreign minister before the Pakatan Harapan or Perikatan Nasional government,” the ministry said.
Wisma Putra said it will hand over the report prepared by its internal investigation committee to the police for further action, as the case involves individuals from outside of the ministry.
On Tuesday, Wisma Putra launched an internal probe and lodged a police report over the leaked audio recording where a man was heard complaining to a ‘Datin’ about the ministry’s problems and the high number of vacancies in senior posts at Malaysia’s overseas missions.
The recording came after Malaysia’s ambassador to the UAE, Tarid Sufian and the consul-general in Dubai, Hasril Abdul Hamid, were repatriated for failing to coordinate administrative and logistical elements of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s visit in March. – The Vibes, April 15, 2022
