KOTA KINABALU – Power was fully restored at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I here around 3pm today, said Sabah Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin.
A power outage at 11.54am yesterday forced the hospital to run on two generators supplied by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) and postpone 28 elective surgeries scheduled today.
Some patients had to be transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital II in Luyang some 4.8km away.
Meanwhile, SESB said in a statement that a technical team was sent to investigate the cause of the outage and found the installation by the utility firm in good condition.
Its CEO Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said it was an internal problem, and further inspection showed that the affected 11kV underground cable is owned by the hospital.
Earlier today, Rose Nani said repair works are being carried out by SESB and hospital concessionaire Sedafiat Sdn Bhd.
It was also reported that the hospital’s operating theatres will be closed for two days due to the outage.
Rose Nani had said the hospital was running on the two existing generators but the machines were exhausted and two more were sent to the hospital by SESB. – The Vibes, April 20, 2022
