CHUKAI – The implementation of the minimum wage from May 1 will go on, despite there being various views and objections, stressed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.
Speaking at the Kemaman Umno division head office here today, he said Human Resource Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan would give details on the implementation of the minimum wage soon.
Ismail Sabri also said that the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) must play an important role in creating a good relationship between employers and employees, as such cordial ties enhance the country’s economic capability.
He said this is necessary as employees and MTUC are important to help the economy recover and pave the way for the nation’s bright future.
“I also hope the labour unions will work with the government to improve the welfare of workers,” he said
Ismail Sabri said employers also need to continue cooperating to ensure harmonious workplace environments for workers.
“Usually, labour unions are perceived to be against employers...people usually assume unions will not agree with employers or with the government.
“But I am confident the new MTUC leadership will work with the government to improve the welfare of workers,” he said.
Ismail Sabri also called on workers to continue placing their confidence in the government to continue helping them to enjoy better lives. – Bernama, April 24, 2022
