KUALA LUMPUR – Indian authorities have arrested two Malaysian citizens who allegedly smuggled 4.2kg of gold from Singapore to India’s southern city of Coimbatore.
According to Indian news outlet The Hindu, investigators from the Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DRI) made the arrests yesterday, seizing gold bullion valued at ₹2.26 crore (RM1.28 million).
The report said the two passengers were stopped at the Coimbatore International Airport upon arriving from Singapore on a Scoot Airlines flight on Friday evening.
During inspections, authorities checked the shoulder bags of the two Malaysians and found the gold bullion. The two each carried 2.1kg gold in their bags.
Authorities said the two were arrested yesterday after questioning and were brought to a magistrates’ court to be remanded on the same day.
The DRI also said it was still conducting further investigations on the gold seizure. – The Vibes, May 1, 2022
