KOTA KINABALU – Parti Bersatu Sabah has taken a swipe at the state opposition’s Penampang MP Datuk Darell Leiking for challenging federal minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili to lodge a complaint on the 40% revenue entitlement on the state’s behalf.
The party’s youth chief Christopher Mandut in defending his boss said Ongkili is a federal minister and his actions cannot be biased towards Sabah.
“Leiking’s call is immature and inappropriate. Although Ongkili is a Sabahan, he is a federal minister and part of the federal cabinet. It will be unprofessional for him to be biased. He must be fair to both – state and the federal governments,” he said here tonight.
“Don’t blame the government today just because your administration was weak. Think maturely, leave behind the nonsense.”
Mandut went on to say that Leiking’s attack was an attempt to cover up his own weaknesses as a former federal minister and the failures of the Warisan and Pakatan Harapan (PH) governments when they were in power.
Leiking was international trade and industry minister when PH formed the federal government.
“As a former federal minister, I am surprised that he (Leiking) doesn’t know his role and function during his tenure.
“Plus, when they were in power, why didn’t he take it up? Why wait now and blame others for his own failure?”
Leiking yesterday challenged Ongkili to lodge a complaint over the 40% revenue entitlement and demand for payment owed to the state.
Ongkili had said he could only act as a facilitator for the state and federal governments to initiate a discussion. – The Vibes, May 7, 2022
