LANGKAWI – The oldest woman in Langkawi, Sapora Amin, died yesterday, days after celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri at her son’s home in Kg Teluk Berambang, Pulau Tuba here. She was 107.

She was once popular on social media due to the fact that she still worked as a fisherwoman despite her age.

Better known as Tok Pora among Pulau Tuba villagers, her death yesterday was announced by her grandson Rahman Ahmad, 45.

He said she had been unwell for the past three weeks but was able to celebrate Hari Raya with her family here.

“She, however, passed away around 2.30pm yesterday.”

Sapora had also met with Langkawi MP Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad when she was standing in line last June to get her Covid-19 vaccination.

They spoke for a while and he even visited Sapora at her home in Pulau Tuba.

Incidentally, Dr Mahathir was visiting the island yesterday when he was informed of her death.

He and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali extended their condolences on his Facebook page. – The Vibes, May 8, 2022
