KUALA LUMPUR – Police have reported another death in custody that occurred this morning involving a 48-year-old Malay man in a temporary lockup in the Seri Alam Police Station in Johor.
In a statement today, Integrity and Standard Compliance Director Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said that the death was certified by a medical officer at 9.35am.
“On May 8, 2022 at 8.35 in the morning, the lockup duty officer had informed that the prisoner was in a weak condition and had contacted the hospital.
“The medical officer from the Masai Health Clinic, Johor had arrived to inspect the victim and confirmed that his death had occurred at 9.35 in the morning,” said Azri.
The prisoner was convicted under Section 15(1)(a) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He was facing a five-month prison sentence starting April 27, 2022 and was supposed to be placed in the Temporary Prison Centre in Kluang, Johor.
He was supposed to leave the Seri Alam temporary lockup on May 10, 2022 to be imprisoned in the centre.
“The Criminal Investigation and Death in Custody Unit, The Integrity and the Standard Compliance Department, Bukit Aman will conduct an investigation into this case,” said Azri. – The Vibes, May 8, 2022
