KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan, on the fourth anniversary of their historic 14th general election (GE14) victory, announced three new committees aimed at garnering support for an impending election.
A statement issued by PH’s presidential council said the formation of an election committee, a manifesto committee, and a Harapan Tour Committee would serve to prepare the coalition’s election machinery and look to sway voters still on the fence.
PH thanked lawmakers and MPs who remained with the coalition post-Sheraton Move, describing the coup as a bitter memory.
“The bitter experience of betrayal from the Sheraton Move must become a lesson to us on the real meaning of our battles.
“It must compel us to realise that victory means excelling while carrying out duties and responsibilities,” read the statement.
The statement also stressed their position that the anti-hopping law must be tabled, debated and passed by Parliament at the next sitting to reinstate the people’s belief and confidence in Malaysian democracy.
Additionally, the coalition expressed their commitment towards respecting the demands of Sabah and Sarawak as stated within the Malaysia Agreement 1963, saying the agreement was founded on sincere intentions and mutual understanding of past leaders.
“All provisions contained within the federal constitution that approves the special rights to Sabah and Sarawak must be implemented, like Article 112C and Article 122D, which must be interpreted in line with the intentions of the law, and not to deny rights to Sabah and Sarawak,” they wrote.
The statement was issued by the PH quartet of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and Upko president Datuk Seri Madius Tangau.
On May 9, 2018, PH created history when it dethroned Barisan Nasional from Putrajaya by winning 122 Parliamentary seats in GE14.
However, just 22 months later, former PH component Bersatu and a cluster of PKR breakaway MPs formed an alliance with Umno and PAS, which birthed the Perikatan Nasional government led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. – The Vibes, May 10, 2022
