KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested five individuals who celebrated a friend’s birthday by setting off fireworks at the roadside of a major highway near the Setia Alam toll plaza recently.

Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the suspects, aged between 30 and 42, were nabbed around noon today at the Shah Alam district police headquarters following questioning and identification.

The five men will be taken to court tomorrow to be remanded.

According to Iqbal, the case was initiated after the Setia Alam police chief lodged a report after watching a viral video clip of the incident yesterday afternoon.

The video showed a group of men playing with fireworks on Setia Alam Highway, off the New Klang Valley Expressway.

The 21-second video titled “Our big brother birthday celebration” was uploaded on TikTok by user @yogen212 and has since made its rounds.

In the clip, a group of men dressed in white tops could be seen gathered by the road and greeting an individual in a blue suit, as fireworks were launched in the background as vehicles passed by.

Following investigations, Iqbal said, the police found that the incident had taken place on Saturday night to celebrate the birthday of one of the group members who goes by the name of Mustafa.

He said Mustafa had stopped his vehicle near the toll plaza to meet his friends there.

The case is being investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 for endangering life and property, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988 for improper use of network facilities or network service. – The Vibes, May 17, 2022
