PKR veep race: Amirudin emerges top with 12,000-vote majority

KUALA LUMPUR – Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has much to celebrate after emerging victorious in the PKR vice-presidency race as results were released in stages since yesterday.

Obtaining 52,838 votes after counting was concluded in all states, he topped the list with almost 12,000 votes more than closest contender, Tg Malim MP Chang Lih Kang, who garnered 40,970 votes. 

The majority of Amirudin’s support came from Selangor, where he secured 26,373 votes. He also won the Gombak PKR division chief post, edging out fellow vice-president candidate Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak yesterday.

Amirudin had a total of 1,858 ballots as opposed to Farhash’s 1,215.

He is also said to be aligned with Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who lost his bid for the deputy presidency against Rafizi Ramli. 

The remaining three vice-president positions will go to Chang, Setiawangsa PKR chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad – who got 40,410 votes – followed by Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun with 38,650 votes. 

Meanwhile, former Kapar MP G. Manivannan (34,573), Farhash (31,969) and Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil (28,939) trailed behind.

Kapar lawmaker Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Alor Star MP Chan Ming Kai and incumbent Wanita PKR chief Fuziah Salleh completed the top 10. 

A total of 17 candidates are vying for the vice-presidency. Four vice-presidents are elected while three are appointed, which most likely will be revealed in PKR’s national congress next month. – The Vibes, May 30, 2022
