LABUAN – Children aged five to 11 who have yet to complete their Covid-19 vaccination can still receive the second dose at the Membedai health clinic here.
Labuan Health Director Dr Ismuni Bohari said children who have received an appointment for the second dose should not be unduly worried about the closure of the vaccination centres (PPV) at Kompleks Darul Kifayah.
“The PPV at the complex was closed on May 31 but the Membedai health clinic will be operating to administer the second dose,” he told Bernama today.
Dr Ismuni said children who have yet to get the first dose should seek an appointment with private clinics for their vaccination.
“All private clinics on this island are offering the vaccine to children and adults, and they have to pay a certain fee as approved by the government,” he said.
He said as of yesterday, 54.1% or 6,364 of the 11,700 children in this age group have received the first dose and 31.2% or 3,650 children have completed the second dose.
“This means there are 22.9% (or 1,457 children) of the total 6,364 children who still have appointments for the second dose.
“Our advice to parents is to get their children to take the second dose at the recommended interval of 21 days after the first shot,” he added.
A total of 1,180,415 children aged between five and 11 years, or 33.2% of their population in the country, have completed the vaccination under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for Children as of yesterday.
According to the CovidNow website,1,728,942 children or 48.6% of the group have received at least one dose of the vaccine.
For adolescents aged 12 to 17, a total of 2,914,722 individuals or 93.7% of their population have completed the vaccination, while 3,011,068 individuals or 96.8% have received at least one dose. – Bernama, June 3, 2022
