KUALA LUMPUR – Businesses that became unprofitable during the Covid-19 pandemic are heading to greener pastures, said the entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister today.
Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar told the Dewan Rakyat during question time today that many entrepreneurs heeded his call to make the change with many adopting digitisation to make ends meet.
“The business of weddings has changed. People are getting married online and the akad ceremony is not celebrated with a large gathering anymore. We have suggested that they (wedding planners) migrate from one business to another.
“As I’ve said earlier, some 36,000 companies have been shelved but at the same time, around 82,000 companies have been registered. These are the ones that migrated from one business to another.
“That way, unprofitable businesses can make profit through online trading and such,” said Wan Junaidi, who was replying to a question on wedding planners and how Covid-19 has disrupted their business from Lukanisman Awang Sauni (GPS-Sibuti).
The minister added that the government has organised a programme for wedding planners, with financing agency Tekun providing small loans ranging from RM1,000 to RM100,000 for the sector.
Tekun has also given a moratorium for the wedding planning industry. – The Vibes, November 17, 2020
