SANDAKAN – Peninsular Malaysian politician and DAP vice-chairman Nga Kor Ming expressed shock at seeing a collapsed road at Jalan Utara here being left unrepaired for six months, saying that it is beyond logic.
“I was so shocked to learn that this collapsed road, which should be an emergency, has been left unrepaired for six months. This is the main road leading to Sandakan town that we are talking about!” he said at a press conference here.
Nga discovered the damage when joining DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke’s visit to the district on Sunday.
Despite Tanjong Papat assemblyman Datuk Frankie Poon Ming Fung, who is also Sabah DAP chairman, constantly urging the local council, Public Works Department, and Works Ministry to look into the problem, the road remains unrepaired to date.
“It is terrible. That is why I have another objective coming here, that is to find my old friend (Sabah Works Minister) Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. Where is Bung? Don’t sleep. Solve this fast.

“Use the emergency fund. This is an emergency!” Nga said.
The Teluk Intan MP said the problem has been ignored for far too long and should not have happened.
“I hope Bung will hurry to Sandakan after this and find a solution as this poses a great risk to our motorists and road users,” he added.
The damaged road at Jalan Utara is only about a minute away from Sandakan town, and is one of only two roads that connect from Mile 4 to the town.
Only one lane of the two-lane road can be used now.
The DAP leaders’ visit to Sandakan is part of their tour programme to ensure support for three of its federal seats in Sabah – Sandakan, Tenom, and Kota Kinabalu – can be retained in the coming election. – The Vibes, June 7, 2022
