Light aircraft makes emergency landing on PLUS highway, 2 S’porean pilots safe

KUALA LUMPUR – The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has confirmed that a light aircraft made an emergency landing on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Sedenak in Johor this morning.

Its chief executive officer, Captain Chester Voo, said in a press statement that CAAM’s Johor air traffic control tower received a call at 10.40am from the pilot of the Beechcraft Model 35 Bonanza aircraft requesting a return landing at Senai International Airport due to technical problems.

“The private aircraft, operated by Premier Air Singapore, was en route from Senai to Melaka,” he said.

“The two Singaporean pilots on board are reportedly in stable condition and the aircraft has been moved to a position that does not obstruct traffic on the highway.

“Search-and-rescue teams have completed all required tasks. The investigation will be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau under the Transport Ministry,” said Voo.

Online portal Malaysia Gazette reported that the incident occurred at Km47.9 southbound on the highway.

Kulai district police superintendent Tok Beng Yeow had reportedly said that traffic officers were deployed to the location.

“The light aircraft did not crash. It made an emergency landing and right now, we still don’t have any information on why it landed on the highway. Please wait for further reports,” Tok had reportedly said. – The Vibes, November 22, 2020
