MIRI – A bridge connecting numerous populated polling localities in the remote Limbang parliamentary constituency in northernmost Sarawak was washed away by floods, two days after campaigning for the 15th general election kicked off.
The bridge across Sg Napir in the Long Napir polling district collapsed after being battered by flash floods.
Long Napir is located in the middle of the Limbang parliamentary constituency and the bridge connects the upper half of the constituency to Limbang town.
Native social activist Willie Kajan of Mulu National Park today alerted The Vibes to the bridge collapse.
There are at least four localities beyond Long Napir populated by Kelabit and Penan ethnic communities plus numerous scattered small villages.
“Thousands of natives are living in the big populated settlement of Long Napir and beyond (such as Long Unar and Long Sigarsei).
“They are totally cut off from the outside world for now,” he said.
Kajan said if no efforts are made to rebuild the Long Napir bridge immediately, many voters will not be able to come out to cast their ballots come November 19. – The Vibes, November 7, 2022
