KUCHING – Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PBS) secretary-general Baru Bian has urged Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Sarawak MPs to drop its plans to cooperate with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in forming the federal government.

He said this was because PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin’s statement accused Jews and Christians of using Pakatan Harapan (PH) as agents to Christianise Malaysia, which threatened national unity.

“We are a multi-racial and multi-religious society and we have managed to co-exist harmoniously for so long. This harmony is something we must preserve,” he said in a statement.

“That dangerous untruth was designed to stoke Muslim anger against Christians and PH. Sarawak Christians reject this statement and we do not want the Premier to partner with PN in any way or form.

He also pointed out that Sarawakians have not forgotten PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang’s insulting remarks that Sarawak indigenous community were “ignorant cawat” (loincloth-wearing) voters who did not know how to vote.

“As PAS is a component party of PN. Their president Hadi Awang has shown himself to be a religious and racist bigot whose only political agenda is the implementation of Syariah law throughout Malaysia,” Baru Bian said.

“His blaming of non-Muslims for the corruption scandals that besiege Malaysia proves that he is a dangerous and self-serving politician who aims to sow hate and distrust among the races.”

He also made a call to all MPs, non-Muslims and Muslim alike, in GPS to be vocal in rejecting PN and PAS.

“Make a stand to the premier against partnering with racists and religious bigots. Your constituents are watching you closely. Now is the time to show to us that you are truly Sarawak first by rejecting racist bigots because Sarawak represents multi-racialism and multi-religious society where all religious beliefs are respected,” he added. – The Vibes, November 21, 2022
