KUALA LUMPUR – The Central Database Hub (Padu), which is set up to collect and integrate socioeconomic data of households in the country, will be ready to streamline all data related to the implementation of targeted subsidies next year, said Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

“The data will be accessible to public sector analysts, and the government is also planning to allow non-governmental agencies and academics to access the database once the data have been filtered,” she said during the question and answer session in Dewan Negara today.

Hanifah said this in reply to Senator Datuk Seri Zurainah Musa’s question on ways to improve the targeting for the T20, M40 and B40 income groups in the database.

On May 15, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Padu will assist the government in implementing targeted subsidies and enacting relevant policies more effectively.

He added that with the establishment of the integrated and centralised database, the government can also identify existing leakages and thus improve the implementation of the subsidy system for target groups. – Bernama, June 22, 2023
