KUCHING – In his Malaysia Day address, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gave his commitment to Sabah and Sarawak, emphasising the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and a resolute pledge to eradicate poverty nationwide.

Anwar asserted that the current government is moving beyond discussions and springing into action, firmly anchoring this year’s Malaysia Day slogan, “Segulai Sejalai” (loosely translated as “together on one road”), as the new spirit of Malaysia.

“All cabinet ministers are well aware of the government’s stance. My responsibility to future generations is to execute all promises and agreements, including MA63.

“There will be no more discussions; only implementation.

“With the cooperation of all our friends, we are focused on implementation, leaving no room for further debate or interpretation,” he said in his Malaysia Day speech at the Unity Stadium here tonight.

Anwar also expressed his determination to ensure that the people of Sabah and Sarawak do not feel marginalised by their counterparts in Peninsular Malaysia.

He stressed the government’s commitment to a new generation that seeks to fulfil and uphold all promises made, following the path set by the nation’s founding fathers 60 years ago.

Anwar reiterated his election pledge to combat poverty through economic development this year, stressing the importance of cooperation among federal, state, and district authorities.

The prime minister also announced an additional RM1 billion allocation to develop the borders of Sabah and Sarawak, in view of the relocation of the Indonesian capital city named Nusantara from Jakarta to Kalimantan.

Anwar commended the Education Ministry for successfully addressing the issue of dilapidated schools nationwide, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, acknowledging the significant progress made by both regions over the past six decades.

Sarawak, in particular, has emerged as a leader in green technology, electric vehicles, and renewable energy, a testament to the region's commitment to sustainable development. – The Vibes, September 16, 2023
