KUCHING – A civil society group has claimed that an alleged property investment company based in Sibu had swindled more than RM500 million from investors in housing and land investment schemes.
The Malaysia International Humanitarian Organisation (MHO) today claimed that there are more than 500 victims, most of them Sarawakians, who had been allegedly cheated by that company.
MHO secretary-general Datuk Hishamuddin Hashim had today convened a meeting with Sarawak police chief Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri at the state police headquarters in Kuching with a group of alleged victims.
Hishamuddin later told the media that the victims had lodged their respective police reports against the company.
“Information gathered by us indicated that the company is based in Sibu and has been actively operating since 2020. There are more than 500 victims with each of them having lost between RM30,000 to RM150,000 to this company.
“The company had (allegedly) offered schemes to construct houses for those who have land and want to build a home. The company had also allegedly offered schemes to those who had no land but wanted the company to help them secure a plot to build a house," he said.
“The company allegedly collected monetary deposits from those interested to invest in property schemes offering high dividends. Their victims include senior citizens and those in lower-income groups who had withdrawn their EPF money to invest in these bogus schemes.
“The victims lodged police reports after failing to get anything despite investing in the schemes offered by that company,” he said.
Hishamuddin urged the police to swiftly investigate these cases. – The Vibes, September 18, 2023
