KUALA LUMPUR − The national Twenty20 (T20) cricket team is set to play in the Nepal Tri-Series from March 28 to April 4 at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Nepal.
Ranked 33rd in the T20 International Cricket Council (ICC), more formidable opponents in the likes of Nepal (13) and Papua New Guinea (19) are set to challenge the Malaysian cricketers.
The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) in a statement today said the Tri-Series will be the right step and believes their holistic approach would encourage participation from more ethnic players and promote cricket throughout the world.
Skipper Ahmad Faiz Mohammad Noor said he and his teammates have prepared well and are all eagerly awaiting the series.
“We look forward to carrying the Championship Cup back to Malaysia. We call on all Malaysians to support the team’s participation,” he said in the same statement today.
Meanwhile, MCA president Mohammed Iqbal Ali said all the matches will be telecast live on Astro Arena, Channel 802.
“This is the first time a Tri-Series is being telecast live. It will give more Malaysians and non-Malaysians residing in Malaysia a chance to watch the matches,” he said.
Following the Tri-Series in Nepal, Malaysia will compete in the inaugural Pro Club Championship as the Cricket Malaysia President’s XI, which will be held in Bhairahawa, Nepal from April 8-16 and will feature Premier League contestants like India, Nepal and Bangladesh. – Bernama, March 24, 2022
