KUALA LUMPUR – Sarawakian Sukma shooter Stephanie Sim Shu Ming passed away on Tuesday. She was 19

According to The Borneo Post, the Sarawakian suffered a stroke on June 16, and went into a coma. She was admitted at the Sarawak General Hospital. 

Stephanie was listed for the women’s 10m air pistol individual, team and mixed team, and the women’s 25 pistol individual and mixed team event for the 2022 Sukma this September. 

During the 2018 Sukma, Stephanie won the bronze medal in the women’s 10m air pistol team and women’s 25m pistol team events. 

She last trained with her Sukma team on June 11.

Her older sister Selina Sim Shu Siang is also a Sukma athlete competing in the rifle events. 

In a Facebook post, Sarawak Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development deputy minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu said that Stephanie was a dedicated shooter and a team player and her untimely passing is a great loss to Sarawak.
