KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Towerrunning Association (MTA) are aiming to occupy the top position in the world ranking in the sport this year.

However, its president Ravinder Singh said the target can only be achieved when the respective national tower runners for the men’s and women’s categories achieve continuous success in the tournaments they participate in.

“We are now ranked fifth in the world behind Poland (first), Germany (second), the United States (third) and Mexico (fourth). To be in the first ranking, the organisers will take into account the ranking of two male and female athletes of the country before ranking movements can take place.

“Soh Wai Ching has already won the title as the number one tower runner in the world since April last year, followed by another national male tower runner Justin Low, who is now ranked 26th. We expect the same from the existing women tower runners,” he said.

According to Ravinder, MTA are optimistic that the target can be achieved through the country’s female tower runners Michele Tan, who is currently ranked 11th in the world and  Yee Chin Chan ranked 21st, based on the latest records released by the Towerrunning World Association.

“They will participate in many tournaments this year, so that will help in raising their individual rankings. Wai Ching will also help them in their efforts to raise their rankings,” he said. – Bernama, March 2, 2023
