KUALA LUMPUR – It is common to be wary when walking around low-cost housing for fear of big items such as furniture, refrigerator, washing machine, sofa or rubbish landing on someone.
It does not help that sometimes a person could end up seriously hurt or even dead. This perpetuates a misconception that flat residents are of poor hygiene and they are even treated with discrimination.
The government and some lawmakers have tried to improve the living standards in these areas but over the years, the flats would fall into disrepair due to neglect and poor maintenance.
However, the residents at Block C, Rumah Pangsa Pandan Utama are determined that this will not be their fate, and aim to change public perception.
Since the first movement control order on March 18, 2020, the residents with the joint management body have been working to beautify parts of their building.
The beautification project started with the lobby area before moving on to each floor, which has its own theme and concept.
Interestingly, the idea of decorating each elevator area was the result of discussions between residents that included financial allocations.
The building houses 13 levels with 18 units on every floor except the top.
As for the exterior, the joint management body has applied for financial assistance from the Selangor government to further enhance the look of the building. – The Vibes, February 15, 2022
