KUALA LUMPUR – Throughout this year’s fasting month in Malaysia, Chef Ammar, or Ammar Al Ali, has gone viral on social media, receiving both accolades and criticisms for his Arabian rice dishes.

Some have slammed him for what they described as “Tel Aviv” prices, as he sells his famous nasi mandy lamb shank with saffron egg at a whopping RM50, while his kabsah chicken set is priced at RM25.

Others have quickly come to his defence, pointing out that the ingredients he uses are high-quality ingredients for his food.

In response to the allegations levelled against him, Chef Ammar has even taken to TikTok, explaining the reason behind his high prices.

He has also been praised publicly for his compassion and kindness towards pregnant women as he and his staff allow them to the front of the queue.

And what a queue it is – customers wait at his stall at the Stadium Shah Alam Ramadan bazaar from as early as 9.30am, even though he starts business at 2.30pm.

Indeed, some wait for five long hours just to sample the Palestinian’s Arabian cooking.
