U MOBILE has officially unveiled ULTRA5G, its new brand for the next-generation 5G experience, with the launch event held today at its headquarters in Berjaya Times Square (BTS).

The rollout signifies a major milestone as BTS becomes Malaysia’s first fully 5G-enabled shopping mall, highlighting U Mobile’s drive to provide the deepest and widest 5G coverage across the country.

ULTRA5G promises ultra-fast speeds, ultra-reliable connectivity, and ultra-wide network coverage, powered by intelligent, enterprise-grade technology.

U Mobile customers at BTS can now enjoy the ULTRA5G identifier on their devices, courtesy of the telco’s advanced In-Building Coverage (IBC) system, marking significant progress in delivering consistent 5G performance indoors and outdoors.

To demonstrate the capabilities of ULTRA5G, U Mobile showcased Malaysia’s first uninterrupted 4K livestream of the 800-metre-long roller coaster ride at the BTS indoor theme park, the longest multi-inverted indoor coaster in Asia Pacific.

The livestream maintained smooth and stable connectivity throughout the two-and-a-half-minute ride, despite the coaster reaching speeds of 70 km/h.

In addition, the telco presented immersive mixed-reality experiences and 5G network slicing demonstrations, underscoring ULTRA5G’s ability to deliver differentiated services and reliable performance.

“U Mobile is proud to launch ULTRA5G, our brand new name for our 5G experience that is supported by our next gen network,” said Chief Technology Officer Woon Ooi Yuen.

“As the nation’s newest 5G network provider, U Mobile is focused on enabling digital transformation for consumers and businesses alike. ULTRA5G brings enhanced digital experiences, from ultra-reliable streaming and immersive gaming to high-quality video calls in crowded areas.

“For enterprises, ULTRA5G opens doors to advanced use cases like XR, robotics, smart cities, and IR 4.0 automation. With deployment ahead of schedule, U Mobile is also doubling down on indoor coverage to ensure the widest and deepest 5G experience in Malaysia.”

Beyond Berjaya Times Square, U Mobile has extended 5G coverage along the full length of Penang Bridge 1 using only two towers, providing seamless connectivity for daily commuters.

The launch marks the commencement of U Mobile’s next-generation 5G network rollout, aiming to achieve 80% Coverage of Populated Areas (CoPA) by the second half of 2026.

The company plans to provide regular updates on ULTRA5G availability, targeting key locations such as airports, hospitals, convention centres, and other high-impact indoor and outdoor venues nationwide.

This initiative aligns with U Mobile’s commitment to delivering the widest and deepest 5G network experience in Malaysia. - August 18, 2025
