THE eligibility of National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) borrowers for loan repayment deferment will be determined based on income information verified with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

PTPTN Chairman Datuk Seri Norliza Abdul Rahim stated that this measure is part of the government’s initiative aimed at aligning loan repayment obligations with borrowers' financial capabilities.

According to her, borrowers earning up to RM2,500 per month are eligible for repayment deferment, while those earning between RM2,501 and RM3,000 per month must make a minimum payment of RM50.

The initiative is subject to income verification with the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

“This reflects the government's concern in ensuring that repayment commitments can be aligned with borrowers' financial capabilities,” she said in a statement.

Norliza stated that the repayment deferral initiative, set to be implemented next year through the Budget 2027 presentation, is expected to benefit over 400,000 borrowers nationwide.

Meanwhile, she noted that the government is also offering a 10 per cent discount to active borrowers who have no outstanding arrears and make consistent, regular repayments.

She said the incentive aims to encourage continuous repayment while reducing the risk of loan defaults.

Employers who make PTPTN loan repayments on behalf of their employees will also be granted tax deductions for payments made between January 2027 and December 2028.

According to her, the initiative aims to encourage employer involvement in helping to alleviate employees' debt burdens and enhance their well-being.

She added that PTPTN would announce further details regarding the implementation of these initiatives in the near future. – October 11, 2026
