MALAYSIA and Singapore have strengthened cooperation between their competition authorities with a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at addressing competition issues that increasingly extend across national borders, particularly in the digital economy.
The MoU, signed today by Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) chief executive officer Datuk Iskandar Ismail and Singapore’s Competition and Consumer Commission (CCS) chief executive Alvin Koh, provides a framework for cooperation on information and experience sharing, capacity building, technical assistance and cross-border enforcement matters.
The agreement was witnessed by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohd Sayuthi Bakar and Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry permanent secretary Dr Beh Swan Gin at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.
MyCC said the agreement reflected the close economic ties between Malaysia and Singapore, where business activities and commercial interests frequently extend across both markets.
It also comes as technological and digital-market developments continue to change how goods and services are offered across borders, increasing the importance of cooperation between competition authorities.
The MoU allows officials from both sides to exchange views on developments in competition law and policy, share institutional experience and build expertise in areas of mutual interest, subject to the respective countries’ laws and confidentiality requirements.
The agreement is MyCC’s fifth international MoU and forms part of its efforts to expand and strengthen ties with competition authorities internationally.
MyCC said such international cooperation had become increasingly important as competition authorities faced conduct and market developments that were not necessarily confined to the borders of a single country.
Iskandar described the agreement as an important development in the relationship between MyCC and CCS.
“Strong competition enforcement depends not only on the laws we implement, but also on the strength of the institutions entrusted with enforcing them. For MyCC, this MoU is an opportunity to look beyond our own experience, learn different approaches and continue raising our standards in carrying out our mandate for the benefit of the people.
“Therefore, I am confident that today’s signing will form the foundation for a more meaningful relationship between MyCC and CCS in the years to come,” he said. - October 1, 2026
