TABUNG Haji reported a record RM4.64 billion profit, its highest in the institution’s history, driven by stronger returns from new and existing investments and improved governance in investment decisions.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the performance reflected the success of investments undertaken by Tabung Haji, with every investment decision subjected to multiple layers of scrutiny.
“Since last year, we recorded the highest profit in Tabung Haji’s history, RM4.64 billion. This shows that the investments undertaken, whether new or existing, have proven successful,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from the Besut MP in the Dewan Rakyat.
Zulkifli said investment decisions were reviewed at several levels, including the Investment Executive Council, Risk and Shariah Department, Portfolio Review Committee, Investment Panel and Board of Directors.
He said the layered process was important to ensure investments were carefully assessed before decisions were made.
Meanwhile, Zulkifli said Tabung Haji continued to implement targeted Hajj Financial Assistance (HAFIS) to help pilgrims cope with rising costs of performing the pilgrimage.
He said the increase in hajj costs was influenced by several factors, including inflation, oil prices, service charges and costs in Saudi Arabia, as well as foreign exchange movements.
“Alhamdulillah, we have managed to contain the increase in costs for four consecutive years. That is an extraordinary achievement,” he said.
He said the targeted HAFIS scheme had also received legal guidance through the National Hajj Fatwa Committee’s deliberations in 2019.
Zulkifli added that Tabung Haji continued to strengthen the quality of its hajj services and had received the World’s Best Hajj Management Award for five consecutive years. - October 5, 2026
