KUALA LUMPUR – HSBC Amanah Malaysia Bhd (HSBC Amanah) has launched its first Islamic green trade finance proposition with the issuance of a green bank guarantee for Cenergi SEA Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

Cenergi is the largest grid-connected, biogas-to-energy player in Malaysia.

In a statement today, HSBC Malaysia said the trade facility will be used to support Cenergi’s solar and energy efficiency projects that will contribute to the company’s vision of building a sustainable business.

“It will also further support the government’s efforts in combating climate change, in line with Malaysia’s Shared Prosperity Vision 2030,” it said.

HSBC Amanah is an Islamic banking unit wholly owned by HSBC Malaysia.

To date, Cenergi has generated and supplied a total of 231-gigawatt hours (GWh) of renewable energy to the national grid, and has avoided in excess of 1.2 million tonnes of carbon emissions, equivalent to approximate emissions from 209,000 vehicles on the road per annum, or the energy consumption of more than 110,000 household for a year. – Bernama, June 4, 2021
