KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, the former chief executive officer of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp), has been appointed as the chief executive of PETRA Transit Systems (PTS) effective August 1.

PTS, the urban transit arm under the PETRA Group, provides urban mobility solutions by combining proven proprietary technology with market insights to deliver customised products and services that ensure reliable, sustainable, and secure transportation.

Its monorail systems offer economical and sustainable solutions, focusing on cities experiencing commuting challenges.

PTS also acquired the intellectual property (IP) rights from the liquidators of Scomi Rail in November 2020.

“PTS has the experience, technology, and knowhow to become a global player in the rail business,” said Shahril.

“Based on a mutual understanding, the value I am able to bring and the vision that chairman and chief executive of PETRA Group Datuk Dr Vinod Sekhar has, I see many synergies with the group.

“There are many opportunities, not only in Malaysia, but also in the region,” he added.

Shahril kickstarted his career in PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1999 and plied his trade at several organisations before being named chief operating officer of the Land Public Transport Commission in 2010, now known as the Land Public Transport Agency.

He has also served as the group managing director of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, and CEO of MRT Corp.

“When you think about rail, Datuk Seri Shahril is one of the first names that would always be mentioned, as he comes with an illustrious portfolio, having been the CEO of MRT Corp and having a successful stint at Prasarana,” said Vinod.

“I could not have chosen anyone more qualified to take on this exciting yet challenging role at PETRA Transit Systems. I am certain that the company will be in the right hands, to take it to the next level in offering urban transit solutions to the world,” he added. – The Vibes, July 28, 2021
