AirAsia to expand travelmall platform for Langkawi holidaymakers

More varieties of duty-free products will be added to current offerings, which include confectionery, cookware, beverages

ALOR STAR – AirAsia plans to expand its airasia travelmall platform to add more varieties of duty-free products available for those travelling to Langkawi.

Head of airasia travelmall Rose Lam said since its launch last month in support of the Langkawi travel bubble, the platform was well received by holidaymakers who were impressed with the services tailored to their needs.

“Currently, we have more than 10 merchants and close to 1,000 products available for Langkawi, with key categories and products that people love to buy in Langkawi such as confectionery, cookware and beverages. 

“We are actively expanding our merchant and product base, and customers can look forward to more varieties of products available on airasia travelmall,” she said recently.

Lam said orders were received on the platform from the first day of its launch, increasing over time as travel restrictions loosen and as more people head to Langkawi.

“We launched airasia travelmall in September 2021. What we can share at this point in time is that many orders are coming in every day, with the majority of orders made on the same day of the desired delivery session.

“Interestingly, there was also quite a significant portion of pre-orders made in advance for as far out as two weeks ahead, indicating that customers already have a habit of pre-booking their travel retail products in advance,” she said.

Lam said airasia travelmall – which comes under the AirAsia super app – is not limited to AirAsia passengers, but is also available for those travelling via other airlines.

She said AirAsia plans to expand the service across the world with a key focus in Southeast Asia and a vision of bringing convenience to travellers where they can shop duty-free anywhere, in any part of the world.

“We aim to provide various fulfilment options for travellers – be it at the departing airport, arrival airport, boarding gate or inflight delivery – and this is not limited to AirAsia passengers only,” she said.

Lam expects business to pick up significantly once travel volume returns with the borders reopening in the fourth quarter of this year or first quarter of next year. – Bernama, October 16, 2021
