KUALA LUMPUR – Desaru Coast will begin direct passenger ferry services to and from Singapore starting early July.

In a press statement today, Desaru Coast and its appointed operator Desaru Link Ferry Services Pte Ltd announced the commencement of the service connecting Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal, which will see its inaugural run on July 7.

Following the recent approval of the route, Desaru Development Holdings One Sdn Bhd managing director and chief executive Roslina Arbak extended the company’s gratitude to the Malaysian and Singaporean governments.

“We thank all government agencies for supporting and working closely with us to facilitate this new international connectivity, which will make Desaru Coast even more accessible to international travellers. This is a game changer for the destination.

“It will enable us to unlock new market opportunities in all travel segments and at the same time, position Desaru Coast as an attractive hospitality investment to draw like-minded investors for our next phase of growth.”

The statement comes after Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar launched the new Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal, Malaysia’s latest point of entry for international arrivals, in late March.

According to the statement, Batam Fast Ferry Pte Ltd, Desaru Link’s parent company, will be operating a round-trip service of a 300-passenger capacity ferry from Thursday to Sunday during the initial months of the operations. A one-way trip would take approximately 90 minutes.

However, the frequency of services and the capacity of ferries will grow in tandem with the demand, Desaru Coast noted.

Ferry tickets and service schedules will be made available online at desarucoast.com and batamfast.com starting June 30.

In light of the new service, Desaru Coast is also offering special packages on hotel stays and golf “play and stay” that include return ferry tickets when guests purchase directly from desarucoast.com.

Other packages include daily entry to Desaru Coast’s Adventure Waterpark, a round of golf at The Els Club, spa packages at its four world-class resorts as well as cycling packages for enthusiasts who want to experience the iconic Desaru routes, among others.

The destination is the venue of the recently-held L’Étape by Tour de France cycling event, and the upcoming Desaru Coast Multisport Festival presented by Ironman. – The Vibes, June 22, 2022
