KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government is aiming to expand and upskill the local talent pool through the industry bridging programme (IBP) developed by state investment arm Qhazanah Sabah Bhd (QSB).

Through the signing of a memorandum of understanding with animation production firm Giggle Garage Sdn Bhd, the programme aims to develop local creative talents while creating job opportunities in the sector.

QSB group chief executive Ahmad Rizal Dahli said the creative industry is one of the crucial drivers in stimulating the post-pandemic economic recovery in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, particularly with the development of the gig economy.

“Through the IBP programme, we hope to provide access to markets through regional and international collaborations.

“The fact that GGSB was co-founded by Sabahans makes us more confident that the collaboration can pave the way for the upscaling of the content quality to international standards.”

QSB is also banking on the collaboration to attract foreign content creators to set up bases in Sabah.

The MoU was signed by Rizal and Giggle Garage managing director Juhaidah Joemin.

Also present to witness the MoU signing ceremony were QSB deputy group CEO Rudy Jaglul, QSB chairman Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, QSB executive director Mohd Shukor Abdul Mumin, and Giggle Garage executive director Zeno Gabing.
