JOHOR BARU – Contributions from exports of palm oil and palm oil-based products to the national income expanded to RM108.52 billion last year compared to RM73.33 billion in 2020.
Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said the contribution from the palm oil subsector to the 2021 gross domestic product (GDP) represented 53.38% of all agri-commodity contributions to the GDP.
“The ministry is always supportive of the palm oil industry so that it will continue to record encouraging contributions to the GDP amid the economic recovery post-pandemic,” she said in a statement.
She noted that FGV Holdings Bhd has emerged as one of the biggest producers of crude palm oil (CPO) in the world, contributing 15% of total CPO output in Malaysia.
Its subsidiary Delima Oil Products Sdn Bhd (DOPSB), which started operations in 2000, has continued to expand and is now leading in three areas: refining of palm oil, bottling of processed palm oil, and the distribution of the commodity.
“DOPSB products and brands are known throughout major markets in Asean, the Middle East, West Asia, Europe, and West Africa. Among its brands are Antara Saji, Adela, Seri Pelangi, and Tiga Udang,” she added. – Bernama, September 28, 2022
