JASIN – The federal government has channelled grants totalling about RM170.81 million to 8,366 recipients under the Young Agropreneur programme nationwide from January 2016 until November this year.
Caretaker deputy agriculture and food industries minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah said the grants cover crops, fisheries, livestock, food, and agro-based industries through departments and agencies under his ministry.
“The Young Agropreneur programme was created for young people between the ages of 18 and 40 years, and aims to assist and encourage their involvement in agro-entrepreneurship based on all activities along the agricultural sector’s value chain.
“The programme was also created to change young people’s perception of the agriculture sector, in addition to increasing revenue through increased productivity, product quality, use of technology, and innovation as well as creating competitive markets,” he told reporters in Sg Rambai here today.
“We can see that many youths are interested in the agricultural field, and some of them have the expertise. They can indirectly apply modern agricultural technologies such as the Internet of Things to increase productivity and efficiency,” he said.
He added that in Melaka, more than RM519,000 have been channelled to 26 Young Agropreneur recipients this year. – Bernama, November 17, 2022
