AN architect with the title of 'Datuk' pleaded not guilty at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of outraging the modesty of a boy - the son of a senior police officer at a gymnasium in Taman Melawati last Sunday.

The accused, Datuk Saiful Anuar Abdul Aziz, 61, entered the plea after the charge was read out before Magistrate Siti Nur Ain Ariffin.

According to the charge, Saiful Anuar allegedly used criminal force against the 18-year-old victim with the intent to outrage his modesty.

The act was allegedly committed in the steam room of a gymnasium located at a shopping mall in Taman Melawati at 7:10 pm on October 18.

The charge is brought under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, or whipping, or any combination of two of these punishments upon conviction.

During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor M. Ramanathan Alias Ashwin proposed bail of RM15,000 with one surety.

The prosecution also requested additional conditions: that the accused not disturb the victim or prosecution witnesses, and must surrender his passport to the court until the conclusion of the case.

Defence counsel K. Theivaendran, representing the accused, requested a lower bail amount, explaining that his client supports an 89-year-old frail mother as well as a sibling.

“I also object to the prosecution’s request for the accused to surrender his passport, as my client has numerous projects abroad, including in Riyadh, but there is no risk of him absconding,” he stated.

Ramanathan, however, argued that even though the accused has projects overseas, a flight risk remains.

He further requested that court proceedings be prioritised over the accused’s professional and personal commitments.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted bail at RM9,000 with one surety, subject to the additional conditions requested by the prosecution.

The court set November 26 for the next mention of the case.

Previously, it was reported that the police had launched an investigation into allegations that an elderly man molested the child of a senior police officer at a gymnasium in Taman Melawati.

The 61-year-old suspect was reportedly apprehended by the victim’s father at the scene before being handed over to the authorities. – October 23, 2026
