FOURTEEN people, including 11 Chinese nationals, were fined RM4,500 each by the Magistrates’ Court in Kuantan on Thursday for conspiring to carry out online scams involving fictitious investments and a Love Scam scheme.

Magistrate Ruzuaini Tuan Lah imposed the fines after the accused in both cases pleaded guilty to separate charges, which were read to them in Chinese by a court interpreter.

Each accused was also ordered to serve six months in jail if they failed to pay the fine.

The first case involved seven Chinese nationals — Li Jiaxiang, 37; Wang Zhidong, 32; Tai Yunxin, 35; Pang Youguang, 46; Sun Fanglei, 32; Hu Yu, 34; and Huang Chao, 28.

They were accused of conspiring to commit online fraud by offering non-existent investment opportunities at premises in Lorong Galing, off Jalan Haji Ahmad, at about 12.30am on Oct 7.

The second case involved seven individuals, including three Malaysians — Tiong Chia Cheun, 31; Ong Kian Hee, 34; Na Jianguo, 33; Ni Peng, 29; Liu Jiachen, 29; Rolence Loo Chin Shiang, 32; and Liu Jiayin, 19.

They were charged with conspiring to carry out a Love Scam by editing obscene images and using them to deceive victims into making payments.

The alleged offence took place at premises in Jalan Kubang Buaya at about 9pm on Oct 12.

All 14 were charged under Section 120B(2) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum six-month jail term, a fine, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Najmi Zaki bin Amer Suhaimi prosecuted the cases.

Lawyer Muhammad Saifuldin Ab Rahman represented the first group, while Ahmad Syamsul Akmar Yusof represented the second. - October 22, 2026
