POLICE will disclose their findings on the alleged attack by a 16-year-old student on a teacher at a private school here on October 27, as investigations continue into an incident that prompted tighter campus security and calls for restraint on social media.

The Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters’ Public Affairs Division said investigators were working to establish and verify the facts before presenting their findings at a media conference next Tuesday.

“We seek the cooperation of all parties in giving the investigation team space to conduct a thorough investigation,” it said in a statement today.

The incident was reported at 8.03am on Wednesday after the Kuching District Police Headquarters received an emergency call through the MERS 999 system.

Initial information indicated that the student had brought firecrackers and allegedly injured a female teacher. Police later clarified that the weapon involved was a penknife, not an axe as initially reported.

The teacher sustained cuts to her hand while attempting to disarm the student. She was taken to hospital and was reported by the school to be recovering well, with no critical injuries.

The student was arrested shortly after the incident and subsequently referred to the psychiatric ward at Sarawak General Hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and Section 6(1) of the Explosives Act 1957.

On Wednesday, a 16-year-old student at the Tunku Putra-HELP International School in Kuching, Sarawak, live streamed himself inside a school bathroom with a phone strapped to his head.

He then charged into a classroom shouting, "This is what you get," and injured the female teacher who sustained cuts to her hand while trying to disarm him.

Sarawak Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has urged the public to avoid circulating footage of the incident or shaming the teenager online, saying accountability must be balanced with compassion and appropriate support.

Tunku Putra-HELP International School said it had strengthened security by stationing three auxiliary police officers on its premises and introducing safety checks at campus entry points. It also plans to provide counselling for students who need support.

Police have urged the public to refrain from speculation and sharing unverified information while investigations continue. - October 22, 2026
