A FEMALE teacher and her son died while her husband was injured after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were in skidded before landing in a ravine at Kilometre 149.9 of the Kuantan-Seremban stretch on Friday.

In the accident at 11.30 pm, the victim, Kartinie Ngatenan, 46, from Taman Ampangan, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, and her son, Muhammad Akif Mohd Azmi, 6, were confirmed dead at the scene.

Rompin District Police Chief, Superintendent Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi, said the victim's husband, who was also the driver, Mohd Azmi Mohajir, 47, was injured in the head.

According to him, initial investigations found that the accident occurred when a Toyota Estima MPV driven by a factory technician with his wife and children was believed to be travelling from Seremban towards Felda Keratong.

"Upon arriving at the scene, the vehicle involved is believed to have hit a tree on the road, causing it to lose control before skidding and plunging into a ravine on the right side of the road.

"Two victims suffered serious injuries and were confirmed dead at the scene," he said.

"The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said. – August 22, 2026
