HUNDREDS of fans waited for hours along Jalan Segget today for a glimpse of Indian actress Tamannaah Bhatia, who was in the city for a jewellery collection launch.
Some had arrived by 10 am, armed with posters and umbrellas as they waited in the heat. By early afternoon, the crowd had grown to several hundred.
Bhatia arrived at Yazhini Gold & Diamonds’ Jalan Segget outlet at about 2.50 pm to launch its Ayra and Abhinaya Diamond Collections.
Dressed in a pink saree, she was greeted by loud cheers as fans raised their phones to capture her arrival.
She did not head straight to the stage. Instead, Bhatia walked along the barricades, stopping for selfies and greeting fans who had been waiting since morning.
The actress, who arrived from Mumbai last night, said she was happy to see the crowd despite the heat.
“I am so happy to see everyone still here and in such high energy despite this afternoon heat,” she told fans.
She also thanked her Johor fans for the welcome she received since arriving.
“Johor fans are beautiful people. From the time I arrived last night, I have been treated with so much love,” she said.
Asked about the new jewellery collections, Bhatia said they were suitable for gifting.
Yazhini Gold & Diamonds marketing manager Velan said the actress was selected for the launch because of her popularity and appeal among its customers.
The appearance came a day after the release of Bhatia’s latest film, The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest, a Hindi fantasy thriller in which she stars alongside Sidharth Malhotra.
Bhatia said she was particularly proud of the film’s focus on Indian culture and folklore.
“India as a country has so much culture, and in this film we showed our culture,” she said.
Bhatia began her acting career in 2005 and has appeared in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi films.
Her Tamil films include Kalloori, Ayan, Paiyaa, Siruthai and Veeram. More recently, she starred in the horror comedy Aranmanai 4.
She also drew widespread attention for the song Kaavaalaa from Rajinikanth’s Jailer, while her role in the Baahubali franchise expanded her following beyond South Indian cinema. - September 26, 2026
