NETFLIX'S 'Squid Game' tells the exciting story of participants risking their lives while playing mysterious games to win a 45.6 billion won (RM16.3 million) cash prize.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk introduces 'Squid Game' as “one giant allegory that expresses the capitalist society of contemporary times” and alludes to the diverse stories of the game participants and how they have been driven into a corner due to competition in modern society.
Innocent childhood games are given an extreme twist with deadly high stakes but participants charge forward without hesitation in an attempt to win the prize – symbolising how people are driven by profit in a capitalist society.
The main trailer reveals the grand scale of the games as well as the pandemonium experienced by the participants. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) calls a number on a business card that has a circle, a triangle, and a square on it. He later finds himself in an unfamiliar place where 456 participants are gathered.
Before the games begin, the participants are given the choice to opt out but with money on the line, they choose to stay. The games begin and the childlike game arena turns into pure chaos. The only way out is to win the game. And the only way to win the game is to stay alive at the cost of putting the lives of others at risk.
