KUALA LUMPUR – Klang Valley-based indie duo Lust have teamed up with electronic musician I-Sky for a remix of their single 'What We Said'.
Described as a melancholic meditation of the past and present, the remix of the track – taken off Lust's 2020 EP 'Vantablack' – launched on major streaming services on Friday (September 24).
A press release on the track also explained it was a sort of stasis "where we can sift through the decisions one has made and will make with full clarity.
"The song textures are rough, but the mood and writing are gentle – we’ve always been drawn to bringing opposite ideas together," Lust said.
"I-Sky flips the song on its head with his hard-edged production and mixing, translating the song’s original melancholia into a euphoric house anthem."
The remix for 'What We Said' by I-Sky is yet another example of sonic cross-pollination.
"I-Sky took the tracks and produced something confident and massive, juxtaposing the original track’s introspective vibes with festival-ready (in the safety of your home) swagger," Lust said, adding it was derived from their stem release on Bandcamp.
Often defined as an experimental pop band, Lust launched their second EP 'Vantablack' in December last year to critical acclaim. The band first carved out a name for themselves with the release of their 2016 EP 'Chingichanga', followed by their debut full-length album 'Tekesima' in 2019.
Meanwhile, I-Sky hails from Petaling Jaya and is a bass aficionado who is known for producing eclectic remixes.
Starting as DJ in the local nightlife scene and making music, I-Sky also makes sonic paintings expressing his musical journey in his spare time. – The Vibes, September 26, 2021
