KUALA LUMPUR – Famed Indonesian composer Oddie Agam, 68, is still reported to be in critical condition this morning after having suffered from breathing complications. He is on life support at RSUP Persahabatan, a government hospital located in the eastern district of Jakarta.
Oddie’s niece, Ilyanna Ayob, told The Vibes earlier that the family is being kept updated by the composer’s son and his doctor who is closely monitoring the condition.
“We are still waiting for more developments later today, but as of now my uncle is still unconscious.”
She added that her cousin could not even visit his father in person with strict SOPs in place due to the pandemic.
“It’s distressing for us all. My aunt, who has been talking to the doctor, and getting additional updates from the relatives there, is devastated.
“She was planning to fly out, but the Indonesian embassy does not allow anyone to come in. All we can do now is wait,” added Illyana.
The Medan-born composer was noted to have initially experienced breathing difficulties and was coughing non-stop before he was brought to the hospital.
“He had blood in his urine at the time so, doctors were treating him with dialysis when his heart suddenly stopped,” said Illyana.
“My uncle was my mother’s younger brother, and the only male surviving sibling within that generation.
“We are certainly very close because he is very loving and a joker, too. I grew up memorising his works,” she added.
Illyana noted that the last time she heard her uncle sing was during her wedding reception in 2015.
“This was before he got into a road accident, and later on suffered from a stroke a few years after." – The Vibes, October 8, 2021
