KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian talents continue to make waves on the global front, leaving their international footprints.

Up-and-coming singer Siti Nur Iman Alyssa Sahabudin, or more popularly known as Iman Troye, has become the third Malaysian artist donning a headscarf to grace the world-famous New York Times Square digital billboard.

Iman’s appearance on the digital billboard came about as a representative of Malaysian singers in the Equal campaign by world-renowned digital music streaming platform Spotify. Equal is a global programme by Spotify in nurturing equity for highlighting female artists around the world.

There are 35 local Equal playlists covering artists from over 50 countries. Iman Troye is a representative from Equal Malaysia and Singapore’s playlists. There is also the "best" Equal Global Playlist that contains music of Equal artists from around the world.

“Alhamdulillah, I am truly thankful for this honour. It is a big achievement for someone who is considered relatively new in the local music industry, what more being a Malaysian Muslim singer who dons the hijab.

"I hope I will be able to continue to fulfil the wishes of my supporters and followers. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and supporters for the undying love and support they have shown me throughout my musical career,” said Iman.

Iman first stole the attention of Malaysian music lovers after her back-to-back covers of popular songs by contemporary Malaysian artists that hit social media by surprise.

She then sparked a local phenomenon through her single ‘Teman’ which to date has gained 45 million views on YouTube. Her festive Eid track called ‘Pejam Celik Hari Raya’ has also received a staggering 11million views on the same platform since its release, last Eid-ul Fitri.

Gifted with a unique voice and her lovely personality, Iman continues to solidify her musical presence with the release of her latest single called 'Nang'. It has already garnered more than two million views since its release just a few weeks ago.
