MALAYSIAN filmmaker, Mickey Lai, was presented with the New Talent Award for her film ‘The Cloud is Still There’ at the National Film Festival For Talented Youth in the United States, according to a report in Sin Chew Daily.
The short film is about the relationship between a mother and daughter, the former being a Taoist and the latter a Christian, as they pray to God to save the family patriarch.
Lai graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and completed her master’s degree in Film and Television Production at the Met Film School in London.
‘The Cloud is Still There’ was made as part of her studies at film school.
Before moving to London, Lai worked as a freelance director, producer, 1st AD and editor in the local commercial and film industry.
In September, the South-East Asia Short Film Festival awarded Lai the award for best film director. 'The Cloud is Still There' was also an official selection at both the Norwich Film Festival and the National Film Festival For Talented Youth in Seattle. – The Vibes, November 11, 2020
