DIRECTOR, acting coach and acclaimed actor Ellie Suriaty Omar has legally divorced her husband, actor Azri Iskandar during proceedings at the Gombak Timur Syariah Subordinate Court (Keramat), Kuala Lumpur earlier today.

Ellie, who won the Pengarah Harapan award at the 26th Malaysia Film Festival through the film 'Penanggal', had filed for divorce from Azri before Ramadan.

According to Ellie, they made the decision because they were no longer compatible after 19 years together and living the married life.

They were blessed with two children, Azrell Omar Azri Iskandar, 18 and Nur Azreen, 13.

"This was a difficult decision for me to make. But, I had already thought it over and in the end, it had to be done.

“I would also like to thank Azri for all the wonderful moments, sweet memories and life experiences that we shared together as husband and wife.

"He is also a dedicated father and loves his children very much.

"But, I feel the time is up for our marriage. I hope many will pray for the best for us,” he said.

Ellie is filming 'Telaga Suriram' directed by Osman Ali after being involved as a consultant for the staging of 'Putri Santubong: The Warrior Princess' by Perkampungan Budaya Sarawak in Kuching, Sarawak last year. – The Vibes, May 17, 2022
