EAST Coast Rail Link (ECRL) passenger fares will start from RM60 for journeys between Gombak and KotaSAS, while the fare for Gombak-Kota Bharu will begin at RM125 for Transit services, following Cabinet approval of the proposed fare structure.

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak said today Economy-class fares for Express services on the 523km Gombak-Kota Bharu route would start at RM147 one way.

For the 378km Gombak-Kuala Terengganu journey, Transit fares will start at RM95, while Express fares will begin at RM110.

The 209km Gombak-KotaSAS route will cost from RM60 for Transit services and RM68 for Express services. The same starting fares will apply for journeys in the opposite direction.

Darwis said the approved fare structure took into account affordability, the value of the service and the long-term sustainability of ECRL operations.

He said dynamic pricing would help manage passenger demand and keep the service competitive, with ticket prices varying according to travel times, demand and seat availability.

The Transit service will stop at every scheduled station, while the Express service will call at four main stations — Gombak, KotaSAS, Kuala Terengganu and Kota Bharu.

The Cabinet has also approved a 50% discount for children aged two to 12, Malaysian citizens aged 60 and above, holders of OKU (persons with disabilities) cards and government retirees.

Students aged 13 to 24 will receive a 40% discount under the inclusive fare initiative.

Darwis said the concessions were intended to widen access to modern public transport and enable more segments of society to benefit from the ECRL service.

Official ticket sales are scheduled to begin in mid-November 2026, with commercial passenger operations between Gombak and Kota Bharu targeted to start in mid-December, subject to the completion of safety requirements and relevant approvals. - October 19, 2026
