AFTER the success of horror film ‘Pulau’ at the box office, its producer has confirmed a sequel is on the way.
Producer Fred Chong said they planned on collaborating with Indonesia on the sequel, reported Juice.
According to GSC cinemas, ‘Pulau’ made RM2 million at the box office. The film was banned in some states for what authorities believed to be elements of soft porn and exaggerated indecency.
‘Pulau’ starred former adult entertainer turned club DJ Siew Pui Yi, actors Amelia Henderson, Alif Satar, Ikmal Amry, Joey Leong, Sanjna Suri and Jazmy Jama.
The movie also made inroads in the region. In Vietnam, it grossed RM400,000 in a mere four days. Netizens pointed out that the controversy surrounding the film's release may have inadvertently served as effective marketing.
Chong noted ‘Pulau’s’ favourable reviews from foreign audiences, which he considered a turning point for the Malaysian film industry.
He believed that no other local film has experienced such extraordinary success in international markets.
Chong will be focusing on the development of the sequel, which is scheduled to be released next year.
The official release date for ‘Pulau 2’ has not yet been disclosed. – The Vibes, April 9, 2023
