The movie's producers, Datuk Nancie Foo and Datin Wendy Wong, hail from Produksi Seni 2020 Sdn Bhd. The production house has over 30 years of experience and has produced over 900 titles of various genres and programmes.

The cast members present were Bront Palarae, Uqasha Senrose, Tony Eusoff, Daiyan Trisha, Syafie Naswip, Amerul Affendi, Ruminah Sidek and Yuyun Hikmah.

Sumpahan Jerunei producers conducted a two-year research into the accuracy of the history and cultural background of Jerunei.

They hope it has translated into a cultural horror movie that will best educate the audience about the cultural heritage of Sarawak. Sumpahan Jerunei is the first movie that incorporates the history and heritage of the Melanau culture.

Based on true and ancient sacrificial rituals from the 13th century in Borneo, Jerunei tells the story of Dr Sani and a team that searches for his wife, who disappeared on an expedition to study a mysterious Jerunei (totem pole).

Combing through the jungle for answers, each member of Dr Sani’s team faces hallucinations, and malevolent disturbances and is transported to strange places. Things take a turn for the worse when one of them is taken over by dark forces from beyond the Jerunei.

Wendy and Nancie hope the contest will encourage youngsters to join in and get more industrial experience and gain international recognition.

They are also excited to gain more support from Malaysians as they are counting down to the release of Sumpahan Jerunei in July this year. – The Vibes, April 16, 2023
