KUALA NERANG – Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) is offering its sponsorship to 1,500 students to pursue their studies abroad this year, said Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

He said the sponsorship programme was offered for the students to continue their studies in various fields and education levels.

“Mara continues to provide sponsorship and scholarships as well as loans to Bumiputera students to pursue their tertiary education in selected fields of studies abroad,” he said.

He said this when met after the Ceria ke Sekolah programme and officiating the Baiti Jannati Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) project as well as the breaking of fast ceremony with Form Six students from three schools, here yesterday.

Currently, a total of 3,391 Mara-sponsored students are pursuing their studies in 24 countries around the world, with 1,422 of them in the United Kingdom.

At the event, Mahdzir also presented TNB’s Ceria Ke Sekolah aid to 257 Form 6 students from three schools in the Padang Terap district.
